KMTR Route Taxi Association to raise sector concerns with Holness

The Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region, KMTR, Route Taxi Association says it intends to write a formal letter to Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness outlining several issues it says continue to bedevil the sector.

According to the association, private passenger vehicle , PPV, operators continue to face challenges, including the use of designated bus stops for passenger pick-up and drop-off and the unlawful occupation of areas painted yellow.

It says PPV operators continue to face prosecution while attempting to provide essential transportation services to the commuting public.

This, despite several discussions at the National Steering Committee, where a need to amend the law recognising bus stops as taxi stops were addressed.

The taxi association says uncertainty surrounding terminal arrangements and use of designated stopping areas has intensified concerns within the sector.

As such, it’s seeking Dr. Holness’ urgent personal intervention to resolve the outstanding matters.
