Siblings die in Gregory Park fire; pregnant mother injured

Two siblings are dead and their pregnant mother injured, following a fire in Gregory Park St Catherine Monday night.

The children are five-year-old Joshua Bell and 10-year-old Deon Bell Jr.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade’s divisional head for St Catherine, Superintendent Dennis Lyon, provides the details.

Superintendent Lyon says three units responded to the fire, some time after 7 pm.

At the launch of Fire and Life Safety Awareness Week 2026 in October, fire chief, Stewart Beckford, urged parents and guardians to protect children from fire hazards.

This, as four of the 14 people who had perished in fires up to that time, were children. Among them was 12-year-old Jaydeon White, four-year-old Samson Cameron and seven-year-old Keriecia Hutchinson.

Superintendent Lyon says investigations suggest a lit candle may have caused Monday night’s blaze.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Lyon expressed disappointment at the incident.
