Residents in Pagosa Springs ordered to evacuate over flooding

The situation is ongoing along at least three rivers in the region.

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. — Flooding is causing an evacuation order for people in Pagosa Springs and certain low-lying areas who should “leave now”.

The San Juan River is now forecast to crest as high as 19.71 feet around 11 p.m. Sunday. That is set to bring the potential for catastrophic flooding throughout Pagosa Springs and surrounding areas.

If you are in an evacuation zone, you’re advised to “LEAVE NOW.” This includes low-lying areas along the San Juan, Rio Blanco, Navajo and Piedra rivers.

  • Evacuation shelters
    • Open Door Church: 110 Trinity Lane, Pagosa Springs
  • Animal shelters
    • Small animals: Humane Society, 465 Cloman Blvd.
    • Large animals: Archuleta County Fairgrounds, 344 Hwy 84

The Town is coordinating closely with Archuleta County and emergency response partners. Beginning at 4 p.m., Highway 160 will close to traffic entering Pagosa Springs. They will allow outgoing evacuation traffic and announce specific closure locations.

If you need evacuation assistance, call 970-731-2160. The County Incident Call Center is available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 970-508-9928.

Further to the west, severe flooding is possible and could prompt evacuations in the Four Corners.
