INDIANAPOLIS — A federal grand jury has issued an indictment against an Indianapolis music teacher and composer who recently received a suspended sentence in his child sex crimes case in Marion County.
The indictment filed Wednesday accuses 58-year-old Julian Wachner of four counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
The federal charges come after the conclusion of Wachner’s child porn case in Marion County, where he was sentenced to six years of probation instead of prison time. Wachner had been charged in 2025 and reportedly admitted to police to using cryptocurrency to buy child pornography.
Wachner’s suspended sentence became a center for controversy, prompting calls from community leaders for the removal of Marion County Judge Jeffrey Marchal.
A penalty sheet for the case says Wachner could face up to a 40-year prison sentence, a $500,000 fine, and lifelong supervision.
Federal court documents say an initial hearing has been scheduled, but the date was not readily available.
This is a developing story.
