Pleasant fall weather continues through the weekend across central Indiana | Oct. 22, 2026

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An extended stretch of quiet and mild autumn weather will persist across central Indiana through the weekend. A pattern shift arrives early next week, bringing increased clouds and a slight chance of showers by mid-week.

TODAY

Mostly clear skies will give way to abundant sunshine by midday as any patchy morning fog dissipates. Light northeast winds around 5 to 10 mph will keep conditions pleasant throughout the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the low 70s across central Indiana—running about 5 degrees above normal for late October.

Overnight lows will drop into the mid-to-upper 40s under mostly clear skies, with patchy fog redeveloping after midnight near rivers and creeks.

FRIDAY

Patchy fog will once again be possible during the early morning hours, particularly in rural areas. Visibility concerns should diminish by 9 a.m. as daytime heating takes over.

Another beautiful fall day is on tap for Friday, with mostly sunny skies and light east-northeast winds around 8 to 10 mph. High temperatures will again reach near 70 degrees.

Overnight lows Friday night will settle into the mid-to-upper 40s, with light winds and mostly clear skies.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK

The weekend looks outstanding for outdoor plans across central Indiana, with Saturday and Sunday both featuring mostly sunny skies and above-normal temperatures.

Saturday

Light east-southeast winds around 10 mph will usher in slightly warmer air as the upper-level ridge axis shifts closer to our region. High temperatures will reach the low-to-mid 70s—nearly 8 degrees above normal for late October. Overnight lows will remain mild in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

Sunday

Peak warmth arrives Sunday as southerly winds around 10 mph continue to bring in mild air into central Indiana. High temperatures will climb into the low-to-mid 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Overnight lows Sunday night will remain in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees as cloud cover begins to increase ahead of a potential weather system early next week.

EARLY NEXT WEEK: PATTERN SHIFT BRINGS CLOUDS, SLIGHT RAIN CHANCE

Monday

High pressure that has anchored our pleasant weather through the weekend will slowly shift its center from the Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic by Monday. This should bring an increase cloud cover across central Indiana, though conditions will remain dry for most of the day.

High temperatures Monday will reach the upper 60s to near 70 degrees under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Southerly winds around 10 to 12 mph will maintain the mild conditions, with overnight lows in the low 50s.

Tuesday and Wednesday: Uncertainty Increases

Lots of questions need answered through the middle and end of next week. A system churning in Canada will slowly drag south, bringing a cold front with it. Rain chances are possible along the front – but it remains to be seen how far south the front sags, and when it actually does sag south. For now we’re keeping the forecast mild and quiet through mid-week, with rain chances possible just outside the 7 day extended, with the possibility of a slight cool down heading into Halloween weekend.
