Ohio's EdChoice vouchers should face a constitutional reckoning

Stane Kuhar’s recent letter (“What ‘thorough and efficient’ actually means for school funding,” Oct. 20) argues that using general revenue funds for EdChoice vouchers properly bypasses the Ohio Constitution’s prohibition against state funding of religious schools.

My bet is that this financial shell game is exactly what our self-proclaimed “strict constructionist” Supreme Court majority will endorse. If they do, it will be up to the citizens of Ohio to definitively settle the issue once and for all, through a constitutional ballot amendment — just as voters have done in states like Michigan and South Carolina.
