Cambodian authorities have deported 180 Indonesian nationals, including 29 women, over their alleged involvement in online scams, as the government continues its crackdown on cybercrime.
The General Department of Immigration said the deportation took place yesterday through Techo International Airport, in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia.
The operation was carried out by the Department of Investigation and Procedures under the direction of General Sok Veasna, Director-General of the General Department of Immigration, following recommendations from Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha and other senior ministry officials.
The department stated that the action was part of the government’s enforcement of immigration laws and measures against foreign nationals involved in illegal activities.
Prime Minister Hun Manet has previously stated that Cambodia will not allow criminals or illegal operators to use the country as a base for online scams or other offences that threaten regional and global security.
He has called on authorities to continue identifying, cracking down on, and deporting offenders without exception to protect national security and Cambodia’s reputation.
Under the leadership of Sar Sokha, law enforcement agencies have continued efforts to combat cybercrime, investigate and dismantle criminal networks, and rescue victims who were deceived or lured into scam operations, the department added.
The authorities noted that these efforts also aim to help victims regain their freedom and return safely to their home countries.
