Police formed special teams to nab culprits in suspicious death case of Assam woman Himashri Boro

Senior police officials of both Andhra Pradesh and Assam, led by IG Siva Prasad from Assam, have jointly intensified the investigation into the suspicious death of 21-year-old girl Himashri Boro, whose body was found three days ago near Boddepalli/Penubarthi railway tracks located between Amdalavalasa and Ponduru railway stations in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

The senior officials of the Government Railway Police, Srikakulam police department, along with officers of Assam, visited the spot on Saturday (October 10, 2026) morning again and interacted with the locals and searched for new clues at the site where the body was found. The police department has yet to confirm whether she had fallen from the moving train or was allegedly forcibly thrown from the bogie by drunken men who had earlier reportedly caused mental agony to the girl.

At the request of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Andhra Pradesh government has taken the case seriously. Srikakulam SP K.V. Maheswar Reddy and officials of the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force formed seven special teams to nab the culprits who harassed the girl on the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express. A clues team, a Regional Forensic Laboratory Team, dog squads, and drone teams have already inspected the scene of the offence and searched for more clues to apprehend the culprits.

According to sources, the girl, Himashri Boro, belonged to the Bonda locality of Guwahati and pursued a BBA course at Bebarauva College of Guwahati. The girl, who was a dancer, arrived in Visakhapatnam on August 16, 2026 and was stationed in Pendurthi, Visakhapatnam and used to earn around ₹2,000 per day by attending dance events along with nine other group members of Assam.

As per the initial investigation, she had booked a ticket on the Silchar Express (III AC) for October 6, 2026, but unfortunately missed the train. Because she had to attend an examination in Assam, she stayed at Visakhapatnam Railway Station and boarded the late-running Vivek Express at around 11:50 p.m. on October 6, 2026. She contacted her college friend Jyothi Chowdary to arrange a ticket. Ms. Chowdary then asked her friend Eswar to assist, but due to distance and travel time, Eswar asked his friend Abhinash to help. Abhinash took a general ticket and gave it to the girl, who boarded the train at around 1:36 a.m. on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).

The Train Ticket Examiner denied her a seat in the AC compartment, and reportedly the attendants demanded around ₹4,000 to ensure a seat in the compartment, but without any assurance. Finally, she boarded an overcrowded compartment in the moving train, all alone.

When the train reached Vizianagaram at around 2:39 a.m., she made a distress call to Jyothi Chowdary, claiming that a few men were misbehaving with her. Jyothi had then alerted her classmate Anoop Tiwari. It was apparently a video call, and it was disconnected suddenly. She reportedly recorded the misbehaviour on her phone, and footage was reportedly recovered by the police.

After receiving the panic call, Mr. Tiwari lodged a complaint via the railway helpline number 139 for GRP / RPF.

Thereafter, RPF personnel led by Assistant Sub Inspector V. Aruna reached Srikakulam station and searched for the girl. But she was not found anywhere in the bogies; her luggage was recovered from coach S-2. Then, the RPF personnel alerted their counterparts in Palasa, but her whereabouts were not found in the train.

However, in the early hours, the body of the girl was found near Penubarthi village on the side of the tracks between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam railway station limits.

During the preliminary inquiry, one passenger reportedly informed the police that she had fallen from the moving train. Designated doctors of Srikakulam completed the postmortem and provided the details to the police. The family members alleged that it was a clear case of murder and there was no need for her to jump from the train. They broke down at Srikakulam hospital and sought the government’s quick action on the culprits who had harassed her in the train.

The SCoR chief public relations officer, Balaji, said, “The investigation is going on. The reason behind the mysterious death is still being ascertained. An IG level officer from the Railway side is personally probing this case with support from the State government authorities. ”

The tragedy has quickly gained national attention and political traction. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and MP Gaurav Gogoi have formally urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to ensure a fast-tracked, high-level probe into the safety lapse and potential foul play.
