Firefighters respond to six acre fire in rural Boulder County

More than 100 firefighters are trying to put out a new fire in rural Boulder County. The Dry Creek fire is about six acres and started Tuesday morning. It’s burning in rugged U.S Forest Service land north of Highway 7.

An evacuation warning is in effect for Pine Valley and Riverside residents, as well as along the Dry Creek St. Vrain Trail, and rural roads throughout the area. An evacuation warning means residents should be prepared to leave. No evacuation orders have been issued at this time.

According to the U.S. Forest Service-Arapaho & Roosevelt office, the fire was 25% contained at 3:30 p.m. and a line had been established to contain it.

Boulder County public information officer, Vinnie Montez, said during an afternoon update that one firefighter was injured, but not seriously, and was able to self-evacuate. “Fire crews are working really hard to get hose laid around the fire,” said Montez.

He said officials were aggressively fighting the fire and that planes are dropping fire retardant around the perimeters.

Children have also been evacuated from the nearby Balarat Outdoor Education summer camp, run by Denver Public Schools.

Montez said that firefighters were staging equipment responding to the fire in the area of South St. Vrain, east of Allenspark, and drivers should use caution.
