Guardians
The Guardians won 24 of their last 35 games to surpass the White Sox for the first time since July 4 and take the AL Central for the third straight year. It’s Cleveland’s 14th division title in the last 32 years.
Cleveland has a powerful 1-2 starting punch with Gavin Williams and Parker Messick. Foster Griffin, who was acquired from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline, will be making his Guardians postseason debut. Closer Cade Smith headlines a stellar bullpen.
The Guardians are led by franchise centerpiece Jose Ramirez, Stephen Kwan, Brayan Rocchio and rookie impact players Chase DeLauter and Travis Bazzana. A .235 batting average won’t jump off the page, but Cleveland is known for their timely hitting and clutch play, especially in October.
White Sox
After finishing with just 60 wins and 102 losses in 2025, part of three consecutive 100-loss seasons, the White Sox (84-78) delivered a remarkable turnaround campaign, holding the lead in the AL Central for much of the summer. Chicago swept the Houston Astros in the AL Wild Card, setting up a date with the team that overtook them at the finish line.
The White Sox are led by sensational rookie Munetaka Murakami, Chase Meidroth and Miguel Vargas. The pitching staff has been hampered with injuries, but still features Sean Burke, who leads the team in wins (11), ERA (3.34) and strikeouts (185).
The White Sox won the season series, 7-6.
