If you’ve been meaning to make your home a little smarter and a lot more secure, Roku has a surprisingly affordable way to get started.

The Roku starter kit is designed to cover the basics without turning your home into a complicated maze of gadgets. It includes sensors that can alert you when doors, windows or even a doggie door are opened, closed or left open, while the motion sensor can detect movement from up to 25 feet away with a 120-degree range.

Even better, you can keep tabs on everything yourself through the Roku Smart Home mobile app for free. If you want an extra layer of protection, Roku also offers optional 24/7 professional monitoring powered by Noonlight for less than 15 cents a day during the first year of an annual subscription.

No toolbox or security expert required

Getting everything up and running is designed to be just as straightforward as using it. Roku says the Smart Home 5-Piece Home Monitoring System Bundle can be installed in under an hour with guided setup videos and illustrations, and you won’t need any tools to get started.

The system also comes with some thoughtful backup features. The Roku Hub has a built-in battery backup so the alarm can continue working during a power outage, while the sensors and keypad can run for up to 18 months on their batteries.

It can get louder when something goes wrong

If a sensor is triggered, the system can sound an 88-decibel siren, while critical alerts can bypass your phone’s Do Not Disturb mode so important notifications don’t get buried.

Add more to your Roku security system

And this five-piece kit is only the starting point. You can expand the system with additional sensors, cameras, doorbells and automated lights as your home security needs grow.
