Ministry of Climate Resilience undertakes Renewable Energy Learning Mission in Morocco

A delegation from the Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy (MCRERE), led by Permanent Secretary Peron Johnson, is in Morocco for a 5-day renewable energy learning mission from 28 September to 2 October 2026.

The delegation also includes Director of Renewable Energy Leslie Smith and Director of Climate Resilience Titus Antoine.

Hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco through the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), the mission provides the Grenada delegation with an opportunity to examine Morocco’s experience in advancing renewable energy and accelerating the country’s clean energy transition.

The programme focuses on renewable energy policy and planning, project development and financing, climate finance, and practical experience with renewable energy technologies and infrastructure. It also provides an opportunity to explore areas for cooperation between Grenada and Masen.

As part of the mission, the delegation is undertaking technical visits to major renewable energy facilities, including the 140 MW Tangiers I Wind Farm, the Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex, and the Renewable Energy Cluster in Casablanca.

While in Morocco, the delegation also paid a courtesy call to the OECS Embassy in Morocco, where members met with Embassy officials for discussions on the future of energy development within the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). The discussions provided an opportunity to consider regional approaches to renewable energy, collaboration and knowledge sharing, investment opportunities, and measures to strengthen energy resilience across the OECS.

The mission comes at a critical time as Grenada works to accelerate renewable energy deployment, strengthen energy security and resilience, reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, and mobilise investment to support the country’s energy transition in line with the Government’s Vision 75 Agenda.

The knowledge and practical experience gained during the mission are expected to contribute to Grenada’s ongoing policy and programme development. The mission will also help identify new technologies, financing approaches, project development models, and opportunities for regional cooperation that can be adapted to the Grenadian context.

The Government of Grenada expresses its appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco, Masen, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating this important opportunity for knowledge exchange, partnership, and cooperation in support of Grenada’s and the wider region’s clean energy ambitions.
