Following the success of the inaugural Sandals Dive Week at Sandals Royal Curaçao last year, Sandals’ community of returning dive enthusiasts descended on Pure Grenada for a week-long celebration of exploration, connection and the underwater wonders of the island.
From 14–18 September, the Island Insiders embarked on a specially curated itinerary showcasing some of Grenada’s most renowned dive sites, including the vibrant reefs of Black Forest and Japanese Garden, as well as several of the island’s fascinating shipwrecks, including Veronica L, Tyrell Bay, Anina and Shakem. The experience also included a visit to Grenada’s most famous underwater attraction, the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park.
With a roster of more than 75 scuba divers, additional boats, dive instructors and other support team members were brought in to assist from St Vincent, St Lucia, Barbados and the Bahamas.

Windell John, regional watersports manager, Eastern Caribbean, explained the inspiration behind the Sandals Dive Week: “Diving brings people together. So many of our repeat clients come to Sandals destinations just to scuba dive, as this is one of our quality included services offered at all Sandals and Beaches Resorts.”
He continued, “The dive community shares enthusiastically on social media and invites their friends and family to be part of the community. We created the dive week to show our appreciation to our loyal divers and to offer another opportunity for connection.”
Beyond relaxation and recreation, divers were also encouraged to enhance their skills by upgrading their PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certifications and specialities. Notably, the Lionfish Specialty was one of the highlighted courses of the week. The Sandals dive team used the opportunity to educate divers, catch lionfish and demonstrate handling of the lionfish at their mid-week Beach Breeze and BBQ Party. Evenings were complemented by night dives and Sandals Grenada’s signature entertainment and dining experiences.
PADI Regional Manager Kristina Leadbeater was present for the activities and commended the professionalism of the Sandals dive team. She shared, “The Sandals dive team has been especially impressive, empowering visitors to safely explore Grenada’s thrilling underwater scenery.”
Multiple-time Sandals Grenada returnee and certified Scuba Instructor, John Bechthold, described the experience as a memorable one: “It was a very special occasion. I’ve been to all these dive sites before but there’s just something special about doing it all over again with my best friends, old friends and new friends and the amazing team who make it seamless for us. We love Grenada.”
Curtis Bailey, watersports manager of Sandals Grenada, shared his appreciation to his guests and teams, “Dive Week created a remarkable synergy between all resort departments and our suppliers to deliver a memorable experience to our valued divers who chose to visit Grenada this time around. We extend our greatest appreciation to everyone who played a role in making it a tremendous success.”
The momentum continues, with the next Sandals Dive Week already scheduled to take place in the Eastern Caribbean at Sandals St Vincent.
