Combining SUV practicality with plug-in hybrid efficiency, Premier Motor Co Sdn Bhd, the authorised distributor of MG vehicles in Brunei Darussalam, has officially launched the new MG HS Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), bringing a new electrified SUV option to the local market.

The launch took place during The Borneo Kustom Show at the Brunei International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Bridex), where the new model was officially unveiled by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, in the presence of invited guests, members of the media and automotive enthusiasts.

The MG HS PHEV combines the performance of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 220kW and 350Nm of torque.

Powered by a 24.7kWh battery, the SUV offers an electric driving range of up to 120km under WLTP testing, while fuel consumption can be as low as 0.7L/100km.

When the battery is depleted, the petrol engine automatically takes over, allowing drivers to continue their journey without the need to rely solely on electric charging, making the MG HS PHEV suitable for both daily commuting and longer-distance travel.

Performance meets plug-in hybrid efficiency

At the heart of the MG HS PHEV is its plug-in hybrid powertrain, designed to combine electric efficiency with the flexibility of a petrol engine.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works alongside the electric motor to deliver 220kW of power and 350Nm of torque, providing the performance expected from a modern SUV while allowing drivers to make use of electric power for shorter everyday journeys.

With an electric range of up to 120km under WLTP testing, the MG HS PHEV offers the potential for many daily trips to be completed using electric power alone.

The 24.7kWh battery can be fully charged in around four hours using a 7kW wall charger, giving owners a practical charging option at home.

For longer journeys, the petrol engine provides additional flexibility by automatically taking over once the battery is depleted, reducing concerns about range when travelling beyond the vehicle’s electric driving capability.

Premium technology and advanced safety

The MG HS PHEV is equipped with a range of technology and driver assistance features designed to provide greater convenience and confidence behind the wheel.

Inside the cabin, the SUV features a 12.3-inch driver display complete with navigation, providing key driving information within the driver’s field of view.

The cabin also comes equipped with an electronic panoramic sunroof, allowing more natural light into the interior, while dual-zone automatic climate control provides individual temperature adjustment for the driver and front passenger.

Adding to the premium experience is a memory function for the driver’s seat, allowing preferred seating positions to be stored for greater convenience.

Safety and driver assistance technology are also central to the MG HS PHEV, with features including Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Detection.

A 360-degree camera further enhances visibility around the vehicle, helping drivers when parking and manoeuvring in tighter spaces.

Spacious SUV designed for everyday practicality

Beyond its technology and electrified powertrain, the MG HS PHEV is designed to provide the practicality expected from a family SUV.

The spacious cabin offers room for passengers to travel comfortably, while the boot provides 507 litres of luggage capacity.

For occasions when additional space is required, folding the rear seats increases the available capacity to 1,484 litres, giving owners greater flexibility for family trips, shopping and longer journeys.

The combination of passenger space and adaptable luggage capacity allows the MG HS PHEV to cater to a variety of everyday needs while retaining the characteristics of a modern SUV.

According to Premier Motor Director Teng Chee How, the launch of the MG HS PHEV marks an important step for MG in Brunei, combining SUV performance and space with fuel efficiency.
