The Government of Grenada has presented Project Polaris to prospective international investors and development partners, positioning the new General Hospital and wider Medical City as a major opportunity to transform healthcare, develop Grenadian talent and drive new economic activity.

The opportunities were outlined during an executive breakfast meeting on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), which brought together prospective investors, development partners, healthcare operators and other stakeholders.

Project Sponsor, Ambassador Andrea St Bernard, delivered a presentation on Project Polaris: A Vision for Investment and Growth, outlining opportunities for partnership across healthcare, research, technology, wellness and related services.

She positioned Project Polaris as more than a healthcare infrastructure project, highlighting its potential to stimulate investment and innovation, create jobs, strengthen human capital and expand Grenada’s capacity to provide healthcare services to the wider Eastern Caribbean.

Ambassador Richard Nixon, Chairman of the Grenada Investment Development Corporation (GIDC), also presented on Why Grenada is a Compelling Investment Destination, highlighting opportunities for investors as Grenada advances its wider national transformation agenda.

Together, the presentations highlighted the government’s strategy of linking priority national development projects with responsible private sector investment and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Minister for Finance Honourable Dennis Cornwall said Grenada’s growing international profile and the level of financing secured for Project Polaris demonstrate confidence in the country’s development direction. “Grenada has raised its profile as a competitive investment destination, and the $185 million secured for Project Polaris is a strong demonstration of investor confidence in our country. We remain focused on attracting investments that create jobs, strengthen our economy and deliver tangible benefits for Grenadians,” the Minister for Finance stated.

Investing in Grenadian talent

Project Polaris is a central component of the government’s Vision 75 agenda, with human resource development being pursued alongside investment in modern healthcare infrastructure.

Earlier this year, 36 medical scholarships and 11 nursing scholarships were awarded to Grenadian students at St George’s University, supporting efforts to build the local workforce required for an expanded healthcare system.

The government maintains that investment in modern infrastructure must be matched by investment in doctors, nurses, specialists and other healthcare professionals to achieve sustainable transformation.

Medical City creates wider investment opportunities

Development is expected to take place in phases, including through public-private partnerships.

The government is encouraging institutional investors, healthcare operators, developers, technology and energy providers, universities, philanthropic organisations and the Grenadian diaspora to explore opportunities for participation.

The Project Polaris team stressed that investment must deliver tangible benefits for Grenadians through better access to quality healthcare, job creation, opportunities for local businesses, skills development and knowledge transfer.

Aligned with Grenada’s National Sustainable Development Plan 2020–2035, Project Polaris also positions healthcare as an important contributor to economic development.

Expanding specialist services locally can reduce the burden of accessing treatment overseas, while teaching and research opportunities can strengthen Grenada’s ability to train and retain skilled healthcare professionals.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to working with responsible local, regional and international partners to develop a centre of healthcare excellence serving Grenada and contributing to stronger healthcare delivery across the Eastern Caribbean.

Prospective partners were encouraged to examine the opportunities presented by Project Polaris and explore possibilities for long-term collaboration.
