Good evening!
On this pleasant and splendid evening, we are delighted to come together to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Grenada, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes to all friends who have consistently supported the friendship between the People’s Republic of China and Grenada.
Over the past 77 extraordinary years, China has undergone a remarkable transformation. Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese nation has made the great leap from standing up and becoming prosperous to growing stronger. China has achieved a complete victory in the fight against poverty, lifting nearly 100 million rural residents out of extreme poverty. We have put in place the world’s largest education, social security, and healthcare systems. The artificial-intelligence industry has expanded rapidly, with more than 6,600 AI-focused enterprises established nationwide. AI technologies are now widely applied across industry, agriculture, transport, people’s daily lives and many other fields. Remarkable progress has also been made in the green-energy transition. The combined installed capacity of wind and solar power has reached nearly 2 billion kilowatts, forming the world’s largest renewable-energy power system. China has led the world in new-energy vehicle production and sales for 11 consecutive years, and its green, low-carbon products are exported to more than 70 countries and regions. Annual R&D spending has grown by an average of 10% over the past decade. The manufacturing value added has ranked first globally for 16 consecutive years.
All these achievements are made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The CPC has stayed true to its original aspiration and founding mission, always putting the people at the centre of everything it does. Leading the Chinese people through one challenge after another, the party has accomplished two great miracles: rapid economic growth and lasting social stability. History has irrefutably proven that the leadership of the CPC is the fundamental guarantee for China’s development and progress, and that the CPC has always been the most reliable backbone of the Chinese people.
Today, China remains firmly committed to fostering new quality productive forces, pursuing high-quality development. As the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, 2026 has got off to a solid start. In the first half of the year, China’s GDP reached RMB 69.57 trillion, equivalent to about US$10.25 trillion, representing year-on-year growth of 4.7%. The total value of goods imports and exports reached RMB 25.5 trillion, up 16.9% year on year, while foreign-exchange reserves remained above US$3.4 trillion. These figures demonstrate the strong resilience, vitality, and potential of the Chinese economy.
Over the next 5 years, China will open its door even wider to the world. We will steadily expand institutional opening-up, align ourselves with high-standard international economic and trade rules, and create more market, investment, and development opportunities for countries around the world.
China’s commitment to peaceful development is also reflected in its approach to global governance.
This year marks the first anniversary of the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, which calls on countries to work together for a more just and equitable global governance system. The Initiative offers a vision of global governance based on sovereign equality rather than might makes right, the international rule of law rather than double standards, multilateralism rather than unilateralism, people-centred development rather than geopolitical games, and concrete action rather than empty promises.
Over the past year, the Initiative has evolved from a Chinese proposal into international practice, demonstrating growing vitality, influence, and appeal. It is fully aligned with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and has received positive responses from nearly 160 countries and international organisations. More than 60 countries have joined the Group of Friends of Global Governance, while the representation and voice of the Global South continue to grow.
China has also taken concrete steps to turn the Initiative into results, including the launch of the International Organisation for Mediation, the establishment of the World Data Organisation and the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation. China stands ready to work with all partners to advance global governance reform and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Your Excellency Governor-General, Hon. Prime Minister, Ladies and Gentlemen,
China attaches great importance to its relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries. Since President Xi Jinping announced the joint launch of the 5 programmes of Solidarity, Development, Civilisation, Peace, and People-to-People Connectivity for building a China–LAC community with a shared future last year, China–LAC cooperation has made steady progress and delivered tangible benefits to our peoples. For example, the trade volume between China and LAC countries from January to July this year, against the backdrop of global economic uncertainty, reached US$364.7 billion, with an increase of 19.8% year on year.
China–LAC cooperation is guided by the principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit. It is not directed against any third party and will not be swayed by external interference. No matter how the international landscape may evolve, China will remain a good friend and reliable partner of LAC countries, work to achieve greater progress in implementing the five programmes, and bring greater benefits to the people of both sides.
Grenada is a trusted friend and partner of China in the Caribbean. This year, bilateral practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. The Phase 9 Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project has commenced, and a number of “small and beautiful” livelihood projects that directly benefit local communities have been completed. New areas of cooperation, including the electric vehicles project and the dispatch of a Chinese medical team, are also steadily advancing.
People-to-people exchanges have continued to flourish. This year alone, more than 700 Grenadians from all walks of life have participated in various short-term training programmes in China, further strengthening the bonds of friendship between our two peoples. The China in My Eyes Short Video and Article Competition has also achieved great success, receiving more than 50 entries that vividly tell authentic and touching stories about China from the perspectives of Grenadian people. We are also pleased to hold the award ceremony later.
Standing at a new historical starting point, China is ready to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with Grenada in green energy, digital transformation, infrastructure upgrading, disaster prevention and mitigation etc., so as to elevate China-Grenada relations to new heights.
Our journey stretches far ahead, and our mission is both weighty and inspiring. China will always be a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international system with the United Nations at its core. China stands ready to work hand in hand with Grenada and all international partners to build a more peaceful, prosperous and beautiful world, and to create a better future for all.
Now, may I propose a toast:
To the continued development of China-Grenada relations and cooperation;
May the friendship between our two countries flourish for generations to come;
And to the health and happiness of all our friends here tonight!
