Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Jennifer Griffith, says automatic enrolment in the Tourism Worker’s Pension Fund is currently not feasible due to legislative hurdles.

She was responding to Nationwide’s Chevon Campbell on Tuesday, at the Jamaica Product Exchange, JAPEX2026, underway at Moon Palace resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

The fund, which was launched in 2022, currently requires voluntary participation from both employer and employee. But enrolment has been slow.

To date, the fund has accumulated $6 billion in saving, with an enrolment of under 11,000 registered workers.

PS Griffith says mandatory enrolment may be the answer.
