A trough of low pressure in the central subtropical Atlantic remained disorganized Wednesday morning and had a low chance of becoming a tropical depression, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center said.

As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, forecasters gave the system a 30% chance of developing over the next week and only a 10% chance of developing in the next two days.

The system was several hundred miles east of Bermuda and was slowly heading west. It is expected to encounter environmental conditions in the coming days more conducive to potential development.

The trough does not pose a threat to Louisiana.

The next named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season would be Fay.
