Minister of Natural Resources and NABU Managing Director discuss cooperation
AKIPRESS.COM – Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Akyl Toktobaev and Federal Managing Director of the Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) Ingo Ammermann held a meeting on September 14.
According to the Ministry, the parties discussed developing cooperation between the Ministry’s Center for Biodiversity Research and NABU, as well as the operations of the Snow Leopard Rehabilitation Center.
The sides explored the possibility of extending and expanding the existing memorandum of understanding and discussed collaboration within the framework of international nature conservation conventions, specifically CITES, CMS, and the Ramsar Convention.
Particular attention was paid to the process of revising the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan. The Minister emphasized the importance of utilizing up-to-date scientific data and expressed interest in receiving expert support from NABU.
Discussions also covered the IKI SYMBIOTIC project, which includes a component for Kyrgyzstan, and the possibilities for its implementation in alignment with national biodiversity conservation priorities.
The meeting concluded with a review of joint measures for snow leopard conservation, the fulfillment of commitments under the Bishkek Declaration, and preparations for events marking International Snow Leopard Day.
