Contributions from the Panama Canal to the State will Reach Almost 4 Billion Dollars to Support the 2027 Budget.

The Canal will present its 2027 budget to the National Assembly, which projects revenues of $5.555 billion and direct contributions to the State of $3.6078 billion plus $329 million, corresponding to income tax, social security, educational insurance for Canal employees and the employer-employee contribution.

The Panama Canal Authority will present its budget proposal for fiscal year 2027 to the Budget Committee of the National Assembly on Monday, September 14, which includes revenues of $5.555 billion.  Likewise, direct contributions to the State are estimated at $3,607.8 million, some $414 million more than what was approved for the 2026 fiscal year.

Adding other payments of $329 million, corresponding to income tax, social security, educational insurance for Canal employees and the employer-employee contribution, direct contributions and other payments to the State would reach $3,937 million.  The proposal will be presented by the Canal administrator, Ilya Espino de Marotta pictured above and bedlow.

For the next fiscal year, the ACP estimates 10,750 transits of deep-draft vessels and a movement of approximately 457.3 million CP/SUAB tons.  The budget also anticipates $1.784 billion in operating expenses, in a scenario marked by challenging water conditions and the possibility of a strong El Niño phenomenon.

Among the changes included is the increase in the duty per ton from $1 to $1.75, equivalent to a 75% increase.  In addition, the budget includes funds for strategic projects such as Río Indio pictured above under protest, the energy corridor, new ports, and the logistics corridor.
