The annual Cy-Hawk game is back.
This year’s edition of the series is in Iowa City.
The home Hawkeyes enter with a No. 21 ranking after last week’s dominant 40-0 shutout victory over Northern Illinois. Iowa State is making its first road trip of the Jimmy Rogers era following a 38-10 win last week against Southeast Missouri State.

Iowa goes three-and-out after deep throws fall incomplete
Hank Brown hit 5 of his first 6 pass attempts, but he’s struggled since. Deep throws to Vander Zee and Diaz both fell incomplete, leading to fourth down for Iowa.
A long punt will put Iowa State’s offense at its own 34.
Evan Boyd “unlikely to return” following injury
According to the NBC broadcast, Iowa State will likely be without one of its receivers following the injury in the first quarter.
Kyle Konrardy hits field goal to give Iowa State the lead
Iowa State settled for a short field goal, and Kyle Konrardy drilled it from 29 yards out.

Cyclone defense stands strong
Two short runs led to third-and-7 for Iowa, and a throw to the outside to Tony Diaz sailed wide.
Aiden Flora’s fair catch will give Iowa State possession at the Iowa 45.
Evan Boyd injured
The Cyclone wide receiver went down after a 6-yard gain on third down. He appeared to be holding his knee and needed to be helped off the field.
Iowa State was forced to punt after the third-down stop. A great punt by Ethan Gurney rolled to a stop at the Iowa 5, so the Hawkeyes will be backed up deep into their own territory for the next series.
Iowa turns it over on downs
Iowa chose to go for it on fourth-and-1 at the Iowa State 40 after a solid start to the drive. Hank Brown kept it for a QB sneak, but he couldn’t get across the line.

Iowa’s defense answers right back. A third-and-1 run up the middle by Aiden Flora was stuffed at the line of scrimmage, so Iowa State was forced to punt.

Hawkeye Marching Band plans to honor Derek Phillips
Iowa football and the Hawkeye Marching Band will honor Derek Phillips, a band member who died after collapsing during last week’s game.
Iowa plans to observe a moment of silence at Kinnick Stadium before Saturday’s kickoff against Iowa State. At halftime, the Hawkeye Marching Band will perform the show Phillips helped prepare for last week’s game vs. Northern Illinois: 50 Years of The Muppet Show.
“We have altered the drill during ‘Rainbow Connection’ at the end to spell out Derek’s name on the field,” the band announced.
Band members will also wear black ribbons pinned to their jackets and shirts in honor of Phillips.
Cy-Hawk football series history
Iowa currently holds a 46-25 lead in the series, but it’s been much more even in recent years. The Cyclones have won three of the last four overall, including the last two in Iowa City.
Since Kirk Ferentz became Iowa’s head coach in 1999, the series is 14-12 in favor of Iowa.
While Jimmy Rogers is new to Iowa State, he’s not new to playing on the road at Kinnick Stadium. Rogers was the defensive coordinator at South Dakota State in 2022 when the Jackrabbits — led by quarterback Mark Gronowski — lost 7-3 at Iowa.

Last year’s game
Iowa State has held bragging rights for two years in a row thanks in large part to kicker Kyle Konrardy. Konrardy was the hero in 2024 when he drilled a 54-yard field goal just before time expired. He followed that up with another 54-yard field goal with less than 2 minutes to play in last year’s game.
