S Hotel Foundation donates $1.5m in back-to-school grants

The S Hotel Foundation is pumping $1.5 million into back-to-school grants for children of tourism workers still off the job following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The assistance comes as schools reopen for the new academic year.

Under the project, children attending primary and schools will receive $25,000; while those enrolled in secondary school will receive grants of $50,000.

Founder of the S Hotel Foundation, Christopher Issa, says the programme recognises the difficult circumstances in which some tourism families now find themselves.

This, as a number of hotels remain closed almost one year since the Category 5 hurricane ravaged parishes particularly in western Jamaica.

The intervention forms part of the S Hotel Foundation’s wider support for education and communities affected by Melissa.

S Hotel Foundation is accepting applications via its website at comms.shotelsjamaica.com.
