Tripoli – Member of Parliament Ali Al-Tikbali said that interests, rather than real political alliances, shape the current scene in Libya.

In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Tikbali noted that the Geneva Forum established the present executive authority. However, he observed an international move, supported by the United States, to form a new authority that brings together major powers from eastern and western Libya. In this context, he believes Abdulhamid Dbeibeh should seek closer ties with the leadership of the Libyan National Army, rather than with Mohamed Al-Menfi.

Al-Tikbali warned that Al-Menfi may rely on those who reject the “4+4 Agreement,” especially armed groups in western Libya, which are relatively capable of obstructing its implementation. He said this strategy could collapse if Washington seriously backs the agreement and pressures these factions to abide by it.
