Indiana weather: Scattered showers today, storms Sunday

TODAY

Scattered showers are likely to be around during the morning as an upper-level disturbance moves across central Indiana. A few thunderstorms are possible as well, but severe weather is not expected. Rain coverage should gradually decrease from west to east during the afternoon, allowing for some breaks in the clouds later in the day. Highs reach the middle 80s with southwest winds around 5–10 mph. Patchy fog may also be around early in the morning before visibility improves.

TONIGHT

Any remaining shower or thunderstorm should fade fairly quickly during the evening. Expect partly cloudy skies overnight with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Winds become light and variable.

TOMORROW

Sunday turns warmer and more humid, although another front approaching from the north introduces a renewed chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. It should not rain continuously, and several dry hours are still likely. Highs reach the middle to upper 80s with west winds around 5–10 mph. No organized severe-weather threat is apparent at this time.

TOMORROW NIGHT

A few showers or thunderstorms may linger into the evening as the front moves south through central Indiana. Rain chances gradually decrease overnight with partly cloudy skies developing. Lows fall into the lower to middle 60s as somewhat cooler and drier air begins arriving.

MONDAY

A quieter and noticeably cooler day is expected behind the front. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds with highs around 80 degrees. East to northeast winds remain around 5–10 mph. Rain chances look very low, making Monday one of the more comfortable days of the forecast.

MONDAY NIGHT

Partly cloudy and mild with lows in the middle to upper 60s. Winds remain light as warmer air begins returning from the southwest.

TUESDAY

Temperatures rebound quickly as the upper-level ridge builds back into the region. Expect plenty of sunshine with highs reaching the upper 80s to lower 90s. Southwest winds increase to around 10–15 mph with occasional gusts near 20 mph. A few showers or thunderstorms may develop later in the afternoon, but most of the day should remain dry.

TUESDAY NIGHT

An isolated shower or thunderstorm remains possible during the evening before chances gradually decrease overnight. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 60s. Winds become lighter overnight.

7 DAY OUTLOOK

The weekend starts unsettled with showers Saturday morning before rain becomes more scattered during the afternoon. Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms becomes possible Sunday as a cold front moves south through central Indiana. A short break arrives Monday with cooler temperatures, lower humidity and mostly dry conditions. Highs should only reach around 80 degrees before temperatures rebound sharply Tuesday into Wednesday, returning to the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Shower and thunderstorm chances return Tuesday afternoon and remain in the forecast through Thursday as another frontal boundary approaches. There is considerable uncertainty regarding exactly how quickly that front moves through the region, so rain timing and temperatures during the second half of the week may still change. Cooler air should eventually follow the front, with highs potentially falling into the upper 70s to lower 80s by Friday. Overall, the week features a somewhat unsettled weekend, a brief comfortable break Monday, renewed heat Tuesday and Wednesday, and another opportunity for cooler weather late in the week.
