A small lot of Panamanian coffee, a very exclusive production of the washed Geisha variety, reached a price of $14,710 per kilogram at the sixth private auction of the Lamastus Family Estate organization, renowned producers of specialty coffee in Panama.
Roasters from South Korea acquired the two-kilogram lot after an international online auction, as confirmed by the Lamastus family. According to technical production records, the climatic conditions of the area, characterized by low temperatures and the phenomenon of bajareque, favored a slow ripening of the grain.
The cup profile certified by the tasters presented notes of white jasmine, lemon, green apple and bergamot. The total production presented by this farm was sixkilograms, distributed in two specific categories:
- Luito Geisha Washed: The main lot of 2 kg that obtained the maximum price of $14,710.00 per kilo.
- Luito Geisha x Bourbon Natural: A second nano-lot was sold for $6,433.00 per kilogram. This grain corresponds to a natural cross-pollination between the Geisha and Bourbon varieties, identified at an altitude of 1,950 meters. Its biological composition and genetic quality were validated through DNA testing before its release to the market, explained the Lamastus family.
The property’s name was assigned by the producers as a tribute to Luito Lamastus, who operated a trout farm in the same geographic area before the adjacent lands were formally designated for specialty coffee farming. This commercial event precedes the official Best of Panama auction, scheduled for September 23, where the organization will present the washed Geisha lot Torre de Elida Estate, which boasts a technical rating of 96.25 points.
