Jakarta, IO – Manpower Minister Yassierli said data from the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) plays a strategic role in understanding labor market dynamics and providing accurate conditions of employment.

“Data is a highly valuable and costly commodity,” Yassierli said while delivering remarks at a webinar titled Optimizing the Use of Sakernas Data for Employment Policies on Wednesday 9, 2026.

According to Yassierli, Sakernas data serves four interconnected strategic functions. First, to monitor the labor market in an integrated manner through the SIAPkerja platform.

Second, the data helps diagnose employment issues, including identifying skill mismatches between graduates’ qualifications and industry needs. Third, it supports more precise workforce planning and the design of targeted programs and interventions.

“With accurate data, we can design specific policies for the School-to-Work Transition through the National Internship Program and vocational training,” Yassierli said.

Fourth, the data provides stronger evidence for policymaking and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Yassierli instructed the Ministry of Manpower’s Planning and Development Agency (Barenbang) to respond proactively in managing and utilizing available data.

Meanwhile, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti reaffirmed BPS’ commitment to providing high-quality employment statistics. BPS is also strengthening strategic cooperation with ministries and government agencies, as well as the ILO Jakarta office, to provide a comprehensive and accountable picture of employment conditions.

“Statistical data is not just numbers. It lays the foundation for understanding problems, identifying challenges, and charting the right policy direction,” Amalia said. (eka)
