BG resident indicted on attempted fetal homicide charge in Barren

A Bowling Green man has been formally charged by a grand jury with first-degree attempted fetal homicide in a case in which he is accused of replacing his girlfriend’s medication without her knowledge.
Abdullah Mohmand, 27, was indicted in Barren County on the charge, a Class B felony which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Mohmand was alleged to have exchanged his girlfriend’s medication on or around May 25 with Misoprostol, a medication that can be used to induce an abortion, without her knowledge.
The woman checked into T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow on May 25 and reported that her prescribed progesterone, a hormine that can be used to treat menstrual problems, had been switched with Misoprostol, a medicine that can decrease the risk of ulcers in patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs but can cause miscarriage, premature birth or birth defects if the medication is taken by someone during pregnancy.
According to prior testimony Kentucky State Police Detective Aaron Hampton, the woman reported traveling from her workplace in Glasgow to Mohmand’s Bowling Green apartment on May 22 and spending the weekend with him until she went to the hospital.
The woman reportedly told KSP that she was pregnant by Mohmand, who had demanded that she get an abortion.

“Mohmand was not on board with the pregnancy,” Hampton said while testifying at a preliminary hearing in Barren District Court in June.
According to court records, the woman told police that Mohmand related to her that his family in Afghanistan would kill him if she were to have the baby.
Hampton said that police obtained a search warrant for Mohmand’s apartment and found an empty bottle of Misoprostol, along with an instruction sheet in a yellow notebook for the use of the medicine as an abortion agent.
Police also seized an empty FedEx envelope that was sent to Mohmand’s apartment, with his girlfriend as the named addressee.
At that preliminary hearing, Mohmand’s attorney, Johnny Bell, argued that the progesterone gelcaps were different enough in appearance from the black, round, marked Misoprostol pills for a user to notice, and that it seemed unlikely that a person attempting to induce an abortion in his unwitting partner would have detailed instructions on the use of Misoprostol for police to find.
Mohmand is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 28 in Barren Circuit Court.
