In accordance with a decree by Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, Alisher Mirzonabov, the former chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), has been posthumously awarded the Order of Ismoili Somoni of the Second Degree.

On September 4, Sherali Mirzo, head of the Main Directorate for the Protection of State Secrets, presented the state award to Alisher Mirzonabov’s father.

Alisher Mirzonabov died in a car accident several months ago. On the morning of June 17, an official vehicle in which he was returning from Dushanbe to Khorog fell into the Panj River at the 282-kilometer mark of the Dushanbe-Khorog highway, between the villages of Zigar and Yakhchisor in Darwaz District.

The vehicle contained Mirzonabov himself, his wife, his two-year-old daughter, as well as his assistant and driver.

The bodies of Alisher Mirzonabov, his wife, and his assistant-driver were found. However, after more than two months of searching, the body of his young daughter has not been found.

Earlier, on September 3, Emomali Rahmon presented state awards and conferred military ranks on several representatives of law enforcement and military personnel. Among those receiving promotions were Saymumim Yatimov, chairman of the State Committee for National Security, and Ramazon Rahimzoda, minister of internal affairs.
