As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of international cooperation between Libya and the Republic of Korea, a meeting was held yesterday between Ambassador Ashraf Mohamed Al-Taib, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Tripoli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Cho Woo-seok, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Libya.

The meeting focused on discussing the preparations and arrangements required for the Libyan-Korean Economic Cooperation Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Libya on 28 September 2026.

The Director of the International Cooperation Department affirmed the Libyan side’s welcome and readiness to host the Forum, and its commitment to working in coordination with the Korean side and the relevant Libyan authorities to complete the necessary arrangements for its successful organisation, in a manner that reflects the level of relations and cooperation existing between the two countries.

To open broader prospects for economic and investment cooperation
The meeting also addressed the technical, organisational and protocol arrangements related to the Forum, as well as coordination with the relevant Libyan authorities and preparations for holding bilateral meetings between Libyan and Korean institutions and companies. These efforts are intended to contribute to achieving practical and tangible outcomes and to open broader prospects for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Proposal for reciprocal visa exemption for diplomatic and special passports of two countries
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Director of the International Cooperation Department also raised the proposal for a reciprocal visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and special passports of the two countries. He stressed the importance of following up on this matter through the competent official channels, given its role in facilitating official visits and enhancing communication and cooperation between the two sides.

In conclusion, both sides affirmed their commitment to continuing coordination and consultations to complete the arrangements related to the Forum, ensuring its successful organisation and the achievement of its objectives.
