Man, dog die after being hit by car in Westerly

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Westerly police say they are investigating a “tragic accident” where an 87-year-old man and a dog were fatally struck by a car.

Officers responding to Atlantic Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday found the man and dog suffering from serious injuries.

Both were taken to local hospitals where they later died, according to police.

Police said it appeared the man’s 84-year-old wife hit them in the driveway of their home.

The incident remains under investigation.
