Petrol queues to end by tomorrow?

Speaking during today’s press conference in Tripoli on the latest economic and service situation in Libya, Ahmed Al-Masallati, Director of Media and Communications and Official Spokesperson for Brega Petroleum Marketing Company, said fuel supplies have improved significantly compared to the recent past, and the situation is now reassuring.

He said the fuel crisis that Libya has been going through is easing. He said congestion at petrol stations is expected to begin subsiding gradually starting tonight, with supply operations returning to normal by tomorrow, Monday.

The Brega Spokesperson said operations and emergency teams are working around the clock to provide rapid alternatives and address any sudden shortages at storage depots.

Identifying some of the causes of Libya’s fuel crisis, Al-Masallati said the global crisis and specifically the shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the repercussions of global energy crises have delayed the arrival of some fuel shipments to Libya.

On a local level, he said reduced production at the Zawia refinery—caused by power outages and security conditions—contributed to a temporary drop in the quantities available for distribution.

However, he assured that twelve out of the 16 fuel tankers scheduled for August have been received and the remaining four tankers are currently at Libyan ports completing discharge operations.
