Grenada’s Hydrocarbons Technical Working Group successfully concluded its participation at the International Meeting for Applied Geosciences and Energy (IMAGE 2026) in Houston, Texas.  

During the conference, the delegation hosted a targeted roadshow presentation to international oil and gas companies to showcase Grenada’s significant but underexplored hydrocarbon potential and promote its inaugural 2027 licensing round. The delegation engaged directly with potential investors, industry partners, and geoscientists at the official Grenada booth to review recently prepared technical interpretations and showcase the country’s hydrocarbon potential.

• Increased Global Market Exposure: Directly introduced Grenada’s upstream potential to global oil and gas operators and energy investors at one of the industry’s premier geoscience gatherings
• High-Level Industry Engagement: Generated high levels of technical and commercial interest at the official Grenada booth, demonstrating and validating the updated subsurface modelling, analogue studies and regional prospectivity analyses with industry experts
• Promoted Upcoming Licensing Round: Elevated industry interest ahead of the inaugural 2027 licensing round for 6 offshore exploration blocks and one open acreage area
• Shared Subsurface Technical Work: Exchanged with other experts our evaluations of the high-resolution 2D seismic data of the basin — highlighting active hydrocarbon features, Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHIs), and global analogue comparisons — to demonstrate commercial resource potentials

Highlights of what the industry learned:

• Extensive Offshore Acreage: Grenada has defined 6 offshore exploration blocks (Blocks 1 through 6) and one open acreage area (OA) for offering in its inaugural 2027 licensing round, covering approximately 28,600 km² across the Tobago Trough and Grenada Basin in water depths ranging from 180 to 3,000 metres
• Adjacent Prolific Basins: Situated near major energy producers including Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname, Grenada remains highly underexplored with only one well drilled to date and up to 12 km of untested sedimentary section remaining
• Robust Seismic Database: Recent technical evaluations presented for the first time utilise extensive multi-client 2D seismic data, including 6,979 km of CAMDI 2D seismic acquired by Geoex MCG and ~710 km of CARIBE SPAN 2D seismic acquired by TGS
• Promising Petroleum Systems: Advanced seismic interpretations reveal multiple prospective play types from Upper Eocene to Upper Pliocene intervals, including deepwater turbidite channels, fan complexes, large transpressional anticlines, and structural closures. Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHIs), such as seismic bright amplitudes and gas chimneys, indicate an active hydrocarbon system
• Global Benchmarking: Global analogue benchmarking across 937 comparable fields worldwide confirms in-place resource potential of up to 3.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent in individual accumulations located in similar geological settings
