Deadly landslide flash flood claims 469 lives and leaves hundreds missing along Nepal-Tibet border

AKIPRESS.COM – At least 469 people have died and over 900 remain missing following a catastrophic flash flood and mudslide along the Nepal-Tibet border.

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah deployed more than 13,000 security personnel for emergency operations, rescuing 573 survivors via 69 helicopter sorties while authorities scramble to set up temporary shelters and provide free medical care.

The disaster, triggered either by a mountain landslide or a glacial collapse into the Lhende River, swept away border checkpoints, bridges, and infrastructure across Nepal’s Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts and China’s Gyirong County.

International rescue efforts are underway to locate hundreds of missing foreign tourists and pilgrims, while top officials—including Chinese Premier Li Qiang and UN relief teams—mobilize urgent aid despite fears of secondary flooding.
