Libya Oil Minister Discusses Energy Security at ONS 2026 Conference

Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdel Sadig, participated in a panel discussion entitled “Will Energy Continue to Shape the Global Balance of Power?” as part of the ONS (Offshore Northern Seas) 2026 conference in Stavanger, Norway (24 to 27 August).

During the session, the Minister emphasized that energy security has become an essential component of national security, and that stable and diversified energy supplies, reliable infrastructure, and long-term partnerships are fundamental pillars of the global energy system. He highlighted the importance of Libya’s location, resources, and proximity to European markets as a key energy partner in the Mediterranean region.

He also stressed that the transformation of the energy sector is not based on choosing between oil, gas, and renewable energy, but rather on building a more diversified, efficient, and sustainable energy mix, while leveraging technology, artificial intelligence, and investing in human capital to maximize the value of energy resources.

He stressed that Libya is looking forward to international partnerships that contribute to increasing production, developing gas resources, reducing flaring, raising efficiency, developing renewable energies, and building national capacities in a way that enhances the role of the energy sector as a lever for development and economic cooperation.
