Detention of Suspect Who Created Fake “Compensation Committee” and Used Counterfeit Stamps to Collect Money

Libya – The Public Prosecutor has ordered the detention of a suspect, identified as “A.A.,” for impersonating the head of a committee responsible for compensating those affected by armed conflict in the country. Authorities say he created a fake organizational structure to collect money from citizens who suffered losses.

Investigators tracked information indicating the suspect led a scheme to seize funds meant for victims of clashes. He allegedly convinced citizens to pay fees under the pretense of paperwork and processes for property damage compensation.

The suspect established a fictitious “Compensation Committee” and used forged stamps to make his transactions appear official and state-sanctioned. The Public Prosecutor noted these tactics won the trust of citizens, leading them to hand over payments they believed were required for compensation claims.

Investigators have been ordered to catalogue all transactions carried out by the suspect and determine the total amount collected from victims. The Public Prosecutor has directed that the suspect be held in pretrial detention pending further investigation.
