BOJ governor says rising inflation is concerning, not alarming

Bank of Jamaica governor, Dr. Brian Langrin, says while current inflation trends are concerning, they’re not alarming.

Addressing a recent quarterly media briefing, Dr. Langrin sought to allay fears regarding rising prices and economic pressures in the country.

Chevon Campbell tells us more.

With inflation at a three-year high and growing concerns of fuel-related price shocks, the Bank of Jamaica, BOJ, is seeking to reassure Jamaicans that it remains firmly on top of matters.

Newly minted governor, Dr. Brian Langrin, says maintaining price stability is key for Jamaica’s economic growth.

While Jamaicans continue to raise concerns over economic growth and rising costs, the Bank of Jamaica’s management, particularly in adjusting its key policy rate, is often singled out for criticism.

But, Dr. Langrin says the BOJ’s decisions are guided by robust and well-tested methodology backed up by meticulous data gathering.

He was backed up by deputy governor, Wayne Robinson.

Robinson says the BOJ ensures it monitors the real economy and financial markets.

Governor Langrin closed seeking to remind Jamaicans that what’s being experienced here is not out of variance with the rest of the world.
