CHARLESTON — Emergency services spent several hours late Aug. 16 searching the waters off the peninsula’s south end for a boater who fell off a dock, according to the Charleston Fire Department.

A person was reported missing after people saw someone fall off a dock just before 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at 33 Lockwood Drive, according to Charleston Fire Marshal Michael Julazadeh.

Cheyenne Twilley, a spokesperson for DNR, said the agency’s divers continue to search for the person in its recovery operation.

Twilley said initial reports indicate that a boat was returning to the Harbor at Ashley Marina when a passenger went overboard and did not resurface.

Fire departments from Charleston, North Charleston and Mount Pleasant spent several hours searching the waters for the person alongside Charleston police, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The search was called off some time after midnight, Julazadeh said.

DNR did not immediately respond to a request for an update about the search.
