Health experts urge elderly to exercise caution during heatwaves
AKIPRESS.COM – Specialists from the Republican Center for Health Promotion recommend that elderly people exercise extreme caution during periods of severe heat.
Health experts warn that high temperatures can increase the workload on an older person’s heart up to threefold, making it essential to monitor blood pressure every morning and evening even when feeling well.
To mitigate heat-related risks, experts advise seniors to stay hydrated by drinking water regularly before feeling thirsty and to avoid going outdoors between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM whenever possible.
Elderly people should never alter their prescribed medication dosages without consulting a physician, and family members are urged to closely monitor the well-being of elderly relatives.
According to World Health Organization guidelines, a normal blood pressure reading for adults is around 120/80 mmHg, while readings of 140/90 mmHg or higher indicate elevated levels that require medical attention.
