Jamaica’s Abigail Able wrote her name in the history books on Independence Day at Caymanas Park as she became the first female jockey to ride in the Jamaica Derby in its 106-year history.

Able was aboard EYE OF A TIGER which finished seventh after setting the fractions early in the event.
 
According to Able, despite finishing outside of a podium spot, she’s pleased that stablemate LONDON SPIRIT managed to win the prestigious event. 

Able is known for making history at the track as she became the first female jockey to ride in the Diamond Mile in 2019. 

She added that at the three furlong pole, she realised that EYE OF A TIGER, had run out of steam.
