Reactions are pouring in from people selected for national honours and awards this year.

The announcements of the awardees were published on Thursday, Jamaica’s Independence Day.

Among them is Mexine Bisasor, who is being awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer. She’s being recognised for service in the field of culture and community service.

Bisasor says the highlight of her career was adopting a child when she was 18-years-old.

Derrick Smith is one of seven being awarded the Order of Jamaica. He is being recognised for exceptional contribution to the public service and community development.

He served in the Senate, eight terms as a Member of Parliament and as national security minister for a year.

Smith says he’s happy to have his work acknowledged.

And, president and chief executive officer of Sagicor Group Jamaica, Christopher Zacca, says he was overcome with emotion when he heard the news.

He’s being conferred with the Order of Jamaica for exceptional service to the private sector and the national community.
