Foreign Minister Anita Orbán held a phone call with Tomás Taraba, Slovakia’s Minister of the Environment, who promised to do everything in his power to ensure that the largest possible amount of water reaches Hungary via the Danube.

Anita Orbán wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday that she had asked the Slovak minister to help ensure that the largest possible amount of water reaches Hungary via the Danube, and that their experts do everything they can to make the water flow as steady as possible. She added that the Slovak minister promised to do everything he could to that end, despite the fact that Slovakia is also experiencing significant water shortages. “Hungary will receive the full amount of water it is entitled to under international obligations,” she stated.

“I would like to once again refute the rumours suggesting that our neighbours bear any responsibility for the low water levels of the Danube. At the same time, I thank my Slovak colleague for his promise that should rainfall arrive in Slovakia sooner, they are prepared to make a portion of the resulting surplus water available to Hungary as a priority,” Anita Orbán wrote.
