MEDORA, ND (KXNET) — Work is now continuing in western North Dakota on the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.
This week, the company Mercer Mass Timber announced that they’ve finished phase one of construction on the library being built near Medora.
Spokespeople say once it’s finished, the nearly $400-million library will be the largest use of mass timber in the state. Mass timber uses several layers of wood that are bonded together to create a structure.
Company senior vice president Nick Milestone says they’re making their last delivery of mass timber to the job site on June 1.

“To put your cell phone down for one minute to go and visit and to be immersed in the sheer scale of what we’ve done, which emphasizes the importance of the history of the American Constitution and its culture, and the importance of why this is, you know, is a great landmark for people to go and visit,” Milestone said. “And, you know, I feel one, I will certainly be I will be there, and I hope that I’ll get an invite.”
The company, JE Dunn Construction Group, out of Kansas City, is in charge of building the new library.
It’s expected to open on July 4 of next year.
