Samoan international outside back Tuna Tuitama will continue his Super Rugby career with the Highlanders after signing a two-year contract that will keep him in Dunedin through to the end of the 2028 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The 24-year-old joins the Highlanders after two seasons with Moana Pasifika and has quickly established himself as one of Samoa’s rising stars. Since making his Test debut in 2024, Tuitama has earned 12 caps for Manu Samoa, impressing with his explosive speed, elusive footwork and finishing ability.

Before making his mark in Super Rugby, Tuitama starred on the World Rugby Sevens Series, scoring an impressive 30 tries in 56 appearances for the Samoa Sevens team. He also scored on his Super Rugby debut for Moana Pasifika and crossed for three tries in seven appearances during the 2026 season.

Tuitama said the move to the Highlanders is a special milestone for both himself and his family.

From leaving the Islands to joining Moana Pasifika and now taking the next step with the Highlanders, my family have been by my side. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to join the Highlanders. Highlanders Head Coach Jamie Joseph believes Tuitama has all the qualities to make a significant impact.

> “Tuna is a player with genuine x-factor. He’s hungry, he’s ambitious, and he fits perfectly with the style of rugby we want to play. We see him developing quickly in our environment and becoming a key contributor over the next two seasons.”

Tuitama will represent Counties Manukau in this year’s National Provincial Championship before linking up with the Highlanders ahead of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.
