The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, along with celebrations marking the event’s 80th anniversary, will be held in Samoa in March next year.
The announcement was confirmed by the newly elected President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork, in response to questions from Samoa Global News about the significance of his new role, not only for Samoa but also for the Pacific region.

“Mo le silafia o lea foi ua iai ma le avanoa e aumai ai iinei le Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships ia Mati, ma faamanatu ai le 80 tausaga o le Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships.
“E fai a la iinei e talimalo ai tatou, ma o le a avea foi lea taamilosaga ma Olympic qualifier mo taaloga o le Olimipeka i le 2028 i Los Angeles.”
Asked whether it would be the first time Samoa has hosted the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Tuaopepe said it would not. Samoa has hosted the championships before; however, this will be the first time all Commonwealth member nations are expected to participate.

The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships was first established in March 1947.
