Motorists and businesses across Tonga will pay less for fuel from Monday, 3 August, after the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) approved lower petroleum prices for August.
The reductions follow declines in international benchmark fuel prices, although a weaker paʻanga against the US dollar has offset some of the savings.
On Tongatapu, the retail price of petrol will fall by 20 seniti per litre to $3.85, a decrease of 4.94%. Kerosene will drop by 15 seniti to $3.25 per litre, while diesel will also fall by 20 seniti to $4.00 per litre.
The Ministry of Commerce, Consumer, Trade, Innovation and Labour (MCCTIL) said the monthly review was based on June 2026 Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) benchmark prices, freight costs and the prevailing exchange rate.
According to the ministry, Brent crude prices declined sharply in late June after a reported US-Iran peace agreement reduced concerns over supply disruptions in the Middle East.
Diesel and kerosene prices also eased as additional cargoes reached Singapore and regional demand remained subdued, while petrol prices softened despite stronger Indonesian demand and lower refinery stocks earlier in the month.
Wholesale prices will also decrease, with petrol down 19.67 seniti per litre, kerosene 17.62 seniti and diesel 21.89 seniti.
LPG prices for August has also been confirmed. Retail prices are set at $4.95 per kilogram on Tongatapu, $5.00 in Vavaʻu, $6.10 in Haʻapai, $6.00 in ʻEua and $7.30 in Niuatoputapu. MCCTIL said LPG prices remain influenced by higher Saudi Aramco contract butane prices, increased shipping costs and the weaker paʻanga against the US dollar.
