Nationwide News understands a fatal shooting occurred on the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 in St Catherine early Wednesday morning.

It’s understood the incident happened in the vicinity of the overpass at the intersection of the tolled highway and Marcus Garvey Drive in St Andrew.

It’s reported that explosions akin to gunshots were heard.

Commuters heading towards the city reported seeing a deployment of police personnel at the location some time before 6am.

They had cordoned a section of the roadway to facilitate preliminary investigations.

The activity caused early morning traffic to snarl all the way to the Portmore causeway.

Traffic was later diverted to Mandela Highway.
