About 7,000 households in the city of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish will have a new residential trash collection day beginning the week of Aug. 3, according to Lafayette Consolidated Government.
The changes affect curbside trash, recycling, yard waste and bulky item collection.
Residents whose collection day is changing are being notified by mail and, when available, by email. Collection schedules can also be confirmed through the address lookup tool at LCG’s website.
LCG said the route changes are needed because participation in the parish’s residential recycling program has nearly doubled since 2023, increasing the amount of material collected and creating uneven collection routes.
To ease the transition, Acadiana Waste Services will allow residents to place securely bagged household trash at the curb in addition to their collection cart during the week of Aug. 3 only.
