A 26 year old male of Leauvaa has been charged with the alleged murder of a 40 year old man from the same village.
The alleged assault happened last month in June and the 40 year old was taken to Motootua National Hospital unconscious.
He was treated and remained for several weeks before he was released to his family to be taken home.
Sources close to the family and village confirmed he was brought home but passed away … when?
The matter was not reported to police until the deceased’s sisters who live in another village went to the police station and asked if anyone had lodged a complaint about the assault.
The two sisters lodged the complaint about their brother’s assault and the investigation led to the arrest of the 26 year old.
The Ministry of Police and Prisons have issued a statement noting the increasing number of deaths in Samoa for the month of July.
“SPPCS received reports of 10 deaths from various incidents across the country, since the beginning of this month,” the statement read.
“This serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and taking every possible precaution in our daily lives..”
“While investigations into each incident continue, the SPPCS is urging everyone to exercise extra care at all times; whether on our roads, at sea, in the workplace, at home or during recreational activities.”
The 26 year old is remanded in custody and he will appear before the Supreme Court in two weeks time.
