Flood inundates settlement in Bajura, 13 families rescued

July 24, Dhangadhi

Floodwaters entered a settlement in Badimalika Municipality-9 of Bajura after the Selagad River and Bauli Khola overflowed near their confluence, prompting the evacuation of 13 families to safer locations.

According to Bajura DSP Shaileshwari Bohara, the affected families were rescued along with their belongings on Thursday night and moved to safety.

The evacuees have been temporarily sheltered in the homes of nearby residents located in safer areas, DSP Bohara said.

Of the 13 affected households, three remain at high risk from further flooding.

According to the Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan 2083, recently released by the District Disaster Management Committee, more than 100 villages in Bajura are at high risk of floods and landslides.

Roads blocked by landslides

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has triggered landslides that have blocked roads at two locations in the district.

Police said roads have been obstructed after landslides occurred in Badimalika Municipality-6 and behind the District Prison.

Efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads and restore traffic, police said.
