The People’s National Party is condemning the brutal killing of 10-year-old Shanai Coke.
Shanai was found dead in Troy District in Trelawny at around 3:30PM on Tuesday.
She was on her way to a nearby shop in the community when she was allegedly abducted.
Her body was found partially nude with the throat slashed.
In a release on Thursday, Opposition Spokesperson on Gender, Denise Daley, says the child’s death is a painful reminder that protecting Jamaica’s children must remain a national priority.
She says the tragedy should prompt renewed efforts to strengthen the systems designed to prevent violence and abuse against children.
Daley is also urging parents, families, educators, community leaders, faith-based organisations and the State to work together to create a safer Jamaica for children through vigilance, compassion and action.
